Are you still a slave?Barack Obama: the poet lied!!
Related to country: United States

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

The attic of a Negro mind
standing at the shore
a voice of a captive filled fear..
floated across the sea toward me
in the margin of human audibility
the scream, came creeping down
the attic of a Negro mind
taking me toward the Mississippi flow...
the mourning hymn coming down with a tear
deep the ominous gloom
when ever I thought of my past
the moment I grew up knowing
I am still a slave

when I go to the farm
I see myself within the field
The axe in my hand seems an extension
of my body as I walk the wood
picturing my forefathers here before me
Doing the same the same work I do
At such moments the past
The present fused together
Into a single entity
Taking my thought along
with the curse that haunts me,
in memory of a long ago dream

creeping in deep within
through the track of my mind
smeared up with blood-
long ago long time ago
before the Whitman comes...
the thought creeps at me…
A ghostly ship out of an African plain
The truth creeps at me
Like sunlight into dew

You felt as they did
they felt as you did
they are sure of it
they thought they understand
the humiliation of a pure blooded African
who lives against his will.

they thought they understand
they real thought they do
they understand the whole teeter-totter
of the color line
and all the trail you suffer

Africa we all believe
Related to country: Kenya

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Doubts have been cast in Africa's democratic experiment as it relates to succession as a result of the sit -tight syndrome exhibited by our self imposed leaders. This is a striking reminiscent of the old kingship era that have been showcased by leaders in Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Togo, sierra-Leone, Cameroon, Gabon, Guinea,Gambia ,Kenya, the Congo's and a host of other nameless country. The toll on the human and natural resources of African nations lost to election violence is much higher in terms of value compared to the exploit of the colonial era combined and yet, there is no alternative to democratic institutions.

What is the need for elections if the wishes of the electorate will not be respected? I will rather prefer a gusty move by a leader to say i am here to stay and there are not going to be elections than the facade of organizing elections whose credibility are next to zero ( dictatorship) .Despite this gloomy democratic development, the past year brought a simmering hope when the South Africans conducted what looked so impossible in Africa .(free and fair election).Reasons for the sit-tight syndrome seems to be the known fact that beside government business, there is no other profitable business in Africa. There is no business like government business .Giving up power in Africa is like throwing away the baby with the bath bowl and nobody wants to do that.

Cheapest car in the ''WORLD'' made by Indians!!
Related to country: Nigeria

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

India just produced the world cheapest car for less than N300,000.00 and importation should put the cost less than N500,000.00.The question is,when do we get to this stage?. The chinise went to US to tap knowledge, I believe supported by their Government, and the knowledge fed into the various institutions as basis for students and other institutions. Then the knowledge could be studied, understood, developed, improved and a follow up is done on such technologies.

But what do we have? We have a lot of struggling lecturers, in our abandoned institutions, still using the lecture notes copied while studing in the seventies'.Struggling with pay, rent and suppression from higher authorities over basic conditions.

Most of them are not aware of later technologies. Are not ready to change and resist information from student about a more recent tech.Let say we have few skilled people around, is there any encouragement from any sector or provision.

There are stories. Story of a guy using herb to develop electronics components in the late 70ties, designed a transmitting station, but was threatened by an authority that claimed he was infringing on Nigerian communication bandwidth. Story of a boy who designed a yam pounding machine, got no sponsor, later sold the blueprint to a korean cheap. Who later brought the product back to the country and made good sale of it.

Story of a guy in the East of Nigeria who had a design for a car with no encouragement. All we need is encouragement from the Government and corperate bodies. All we need is a Center for development, where ideas can be challenged and improved,Where students can go for project design & development,A place where experts are employed, could be expatriates,Where information could be received from places and people sent abroad to tap tech,Esterblish communication with great Nigerians around the world,Such a center keeps the Institutions updated with current tech, lectures and information,Such a center creat a standard in our institutions.

What does it take to have such? Little from a country like ours. What does it take to have other basic facilities? All it takes is having leaders with good intentions. Its best to make our leadership positions less attractive and completely remove the immunity clause. Then thieves would not be comfortable to come out for harvest.

There is need for immidiate change, except we choose to remain a customer to the rest of the world, even third world countries,Then we can benefit by replacing most of our inported used cars on the street with cars and products like this, since its affordable.

The vehicle, called the Tata Nano, will sell for $2,500 (£1,277) and enable those in developing countries to move to four wheels.

Yar' Adua, Your education minister, a Big Mess.
Related to country: Nigeria

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

I have been watching the utterances of the current Education Minister and have found his style and performance of duty since his inception of office very low and ridiculous. My reasons is that for no good reasons, this man failed to go forward with the implementation of a well-articulated well- thought education reforms initiated by his widely approved predecessor.

And only yesterday,I watched this man on the BBC interview on one child, one computer program for Nigeria. He said there was no need introducing the computer earlier to the Nigerian Child since 70% of Nigerian children lack basic amenities and live in the villages where no water and electricity and good study enviroment? Does this statment make meaning?

Then my worries and question is who should have been responsible for the provision of adequate facilities for the Nigerian children wherever they are found in the country. Was it these foriegners that are trying to open our eyes with computers and its possibilities, that should have constructed our schools, provided food, electricity, internet service and so on?Does this complaint not amount to washing our dirty linings in the public?

But the biggest question is whether Nigeria is too poor to provide facilities and to fund education which is the future of the country evenly for her children.

Finally, I should call on President Yar- Adua to please replace or at least, send to study leave, this minister who has no plans and inarticulate in his job instead of destroying the future of Nigerian children.

Another Nigerian Killed in South Africa
Related to country: Nigeria

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Johannesburg metro police spokesman, Inspector Jethro Mtshali, yesterday confirmed the death and identity of a Nigerian man, shot by armed robbers in South Africa.

A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the man, name withheld, was killed on Wednesday, barely two weeks after a metro police officer shot a 37-year-old Nigerian, now on danger list at a Johannesburg hospital.

The police chief said "his name is withheld, because his kin have not been informed. However, his wife identified him as a Nigerian and investigation is on at the Midrand police station," he said, adding that he was shot in the chest.

No arrests have been made Mtshali said the Nigerian, according to witnesses, left the O.R . Tambo International airport and did not notice that he was being followed by three men in a Mazda car.
According to eye witnesses account, the men jumped out holding guns and made for the boot of the car, and shot the man, when he tried to escape.

NAN also reports that doctors at the Johannesburg hospital are still trying to save the life of a Nigerian, Jude Okudili, shot two weeks ago by a South African metro police officer in Central Johannesburg.

A second surgery was yesterday carried out on Okudili, who still has his intestine packed in a plastic bag with a pipe fixed to his urinary tract. Okudili was shot in the stomach on December 24, 2007, at his shop where he sells "suya."

Believe:Hope for Nigeria
Related to country: Nigeria

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Fellow Nigerians,

I suggest Nigerians anywhere in the world needs to go to the "woods and have a wonderful last talk with God", I mean, attempt a last spiritual journey, we will not regret we did.

In the journey of life I realized that many people dream yet do not get there because they refuse to make a bold step. While noting comes from daring to begin, the dreamer who finds his/her way by
moonlight sees the dawn.Hence don't quit, the future is not a gift; it is an achievement though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending. Learn from yesterday, live for today and hope for tomorrow.

No matter what has gone before, a new day is a chance to begin again. Do not think about what might have been instead look toward what can be when you live each day to the fullest, Each will become a treasure for you and for all.

Out of difficulties grows miracles. I am saying when it seem hardest comes a solution. There comes a time in life when you believe everything is finished, dear fellow Nigerians, that is always the beginning. David Jones said ''One's mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions. I tell you, this world is a canvas to our imagination. Start by doing what's possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible. Courage doesn't always roar, sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day.

Dear Nigerians, my wish for you this day is that all your wishes have come to pass let us continue to pray for the Nation Nigeria and also stand up to defend your rights,It is my belief that God in His
infinite mercy will grant us leaders with courage and sincere heart because I understand fully well that the problem of Nigeria and Nigerians is leadership.

God bless Nigeria and Nigerians with courage.
