These are perilous times. Even Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity, said something along this line. Permit the incursion into the Bible because the story has something to do with this realm. Jesus said that when the world is about to grind to a halt, false prophets would rise and deceive people.
Indeed, Jumoke Sowemimo, a false prophetess, went beyond deceiving people. She actually kidnapped children, a vice which made her public enemy in Mushin and its environs in Lagos.
But nemesis caught up with Sowemimo, 38, a native of Abeokuta in Ogun State, recently. The Divisional Police Officer, Olosan Police Station, Mushin, Chief Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Folorunsho Fajuyigbe disclosed that he heard that there was a kidnapper who claimed to be a prophetess but in actual fact was always stealing children and he was determined to bring her to book.
On this particular occasion, she went into a house under this pretext, picked up a two-year-old baby and took to her heels. But an eagle-eyed good Samaritan caught her.
Sowemimo told Across Nigeria that she was sent by someone who as usual, would give her a share of the proceeds.
A source at the police station told Across Nigeria that the suspect would be charged to court after full investigation.
Sowemimo’s arrest is a lesson to other kidnappers that the arm of the law is long and can reach the most hidden crevices.
